Biography
22 Jan. 1799–1 Dec. 1882. Teacher, attorney, insurance agent, politician. Born in Ashford, Windham Co., Connecticut. Son of William Perkins and Mary Lee. Moved to Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut, to study law, ca. 1822. Admitted to Connecticut bar, May 1824. Moved to Windsor, Hartford Co., ca. 1824. Married first Julia Gillett, 8 Nov. 1826, in Windsor. Moved to Painesville, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1828. Formed law firm of Perkins & Osborn with Salmon S. Osborn, 18 Feb. 1834, in Painesville. Agent of Protection Insurance Company of Hartford, 1834. Married second Sarah Margaretta Oakley Waite, 12 Jan. 1837, in Geauga Co. Law firm represented JS in various lawsuits; also represented others in suits against JS. Served as prosecuting attorney in Lake Co., Ohio, 1840, 1859–1863. Served in Ohio Senate, 1843–1847. Served as mayor of Painesville, 1853. Died in Painesville.
