Biography
8 Apr. 1805–10 Oct. 1889. Farmer, shoemaker, justice of the peace, store clerk, carpenter. Born in New York. Married Mary Holmes. Resided at Norton, Medina Co., Ohio, by 1830. Listed as having appeared in one of several visions Joseph Bosworth recounted in a letter to JS dated 17 Feb. 1834. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Attended church meetings held in New Portage, Medina Co., 8 Sept. 1834, 18 Nov. 1835, and 10 June 1836. Ordained a high priest, by 18 Nov. 1835. Moved to Ray Co., Missouri, summer 1836. As high councilor, attended meeting in Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, 28 May 1837. Appointed member of high council at organization of Adam-ondi-Ahman stake, 28 June 1838, in Daviess Co., Missouri. Moved to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, by late 1838. Returned to Norton, by 1840. Signed petition for redress to U.S. Congress in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, 28 Nov. 1843, for persecution and expulsion of Latter-day Saints from Missouri. Lived at Nauvoo, 1844. Moved to Washington Co., Iowa, by 24 Jan. 1849; to Marshall Co., Iowa, by 1850; and to Eldora, Hardin Co., Iowa, by 1856. Resided at Clay, Hardin Co., 1860. Moved to Cedar Falls, Black Hawk Co., Iowa, by 1870. Buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls.
