Biography
25 Sept. 1818–9 Apr. 1894. Teacher, lawyer, newspaper editor and publisher. Born in Mount Holly, Burlington Co., New Jersey. Son of Solomon Sharp and Jemima Budd. Lived at Smyrna, Kent Co., Delaware, June 1830. Moved to Carlisle, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania, 1835. Graduated from Dickinson College, 1840, in Carlisle. Admitted to Cumberland Co. bar, 14 Apr. 1840. Moved to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, July 1840. Moved to Warsaw, Hancock Co., Illinois, Sept. 1840. Edited Western World (later Warsaw Signal), 1840–1842, 1844–1846. Attended cornerstone laying ceremony for Nauvoo temple, 1841, at invitation of JS. Married first Hannah G. Wilcox, 6 Sept. 1842. Indicted for murder of JS and Hyrum Smith, 1844; later acquitted. Moved to Carthage, Hancock Co., Dec. 1865. Married second Anna E. Hewitt, 25 Nov. 1881, in Hannibal, Marion Co., Missouri. Died in Carthage.
