Biography
23 Oct. 1800–15 Apr. 1869. Physician. Born at St. Peter, Isle of Guernsey, Channel Islands, Great Britain. Migrated to U.S., by 1830. Married Eliza, a native of Virginia. Located at Washington DC, 1830. Moved to Virginia, by 1831. Moved to Freedom, Beaver Co., Pennsylvania, by 1835. A preacher for reformed Baptists (later Disciples of Christ or Campbellites). Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and ordained an elder by Orson Pratt, 1835, at Freedom. Served mission near his home with Erastus Snow, 1836. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1836. Stockholder in Kirtland Safety Society. Ordained a high priest, before Oct. 1837. Migrated to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, by 1838. Appointed general in Society of the Daughter of Zion (Danites) but was later demoted, summer 1838. Excommunicated, 17 Mar. 1839. Moved to Edwardsville, Madison Co., Illinois, by 1840. Died at Edwardsville.
