30 Apr. 1790–29 Apr. 1861. Farmer, tanner, builder. Born at Cambridge, Washington Co., New York. Son of William Cahoon Jr. and Mehitable Hodges. Married Thirza Stiles, 11 Dec. 1810. Moved to northeastern Ohio, 1811. Located at Harpersfield, Ashtabula Co., Ohio. Served in War of 1812. Moved near Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1825. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Parley P. Pratt, Nov. 1830. Ordained an elder by Sidney Rigdon and a high priest by JS, 4 June 1831. Appointed to serve mission to Missouri, 6 June 1831. Appointed counselor to Bishop Newel K. Whitney at Kirtland, 10 Feb. 1832. Appointed to serve mission with David W. Patten to Warsaw, Wyoming Co., New York, 23 Mar. 1833. Member of committee to oversee building of Kirtland temple. Stockholder in Kirtland Safety Society. Member of Kirtland stake presidency. Moved to Missouri, June 1838. Appointed counselor to stake president at Adam-ondi-Ahman, Daviess Co., Missouri, 28 June 1838. Located in Iowa Territory following exodus from Missouri. Appointed counselor in Iowa branch, Lee Co., Iowa Territory, 1839. Appointed guard in Nauvoo Legion, Mar. 1841. Served on Nauvoo temple building committee. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Admitted to Council of Fifty, 11 Mar. 1844. Resided at Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska), 1846. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley, 1848. Died in Salt Lake City.
