Packard, Noah
Biography
7 May 1796–17 Feb. 1860. Farmer, surveyor, miner. Born at Plainfield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts. Son of Noah Packard and Molly Hamblin. Moved to Parkman, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1817. Married Sophia Bundy, 29 June 1820, at Parkman. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Parley P. Pratt, June 1832, in Parkman. Ordained a priest by JS, 3 Dec. 1832, at Kirtland, Geauga Co. Appointed to serve mission to Parkman, 5 Dec. 1832. Left to serve mission to eastern U.S., 22 Apr. 1833. Ordained an elder by John Gould, 6 May 1833, at Westfield, Chautauque Co., New York. Appointed president of Parkman branch, 1833. Moved to Kirtland, 1835. Ordained a high priest, 13 Jan. 1836. Member of Kirtland high council, 1836. Stockholder in Kirtland Safety Society. Left Ohio for Missouri, late fall 1838, but instead spent winter at Wellsville, Columbiana Co., Ohio. Located at Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, 1839. Moved to Commerce (later Nauvoo), Hancock Co., Illinois, 18 May 1839. Served as counselor in Nauvoo high priests quorum presidency under Don Carlos Smith and then George Miller, 1840–1846. Served missions to various U.S. states, 1841–1843, 1845. Agent for church to collect funds in Michigan for Nauvoo temple, 1845. Moved to Hazelgreen, Orren Co., Wisconsin, spring 1846. Migrated to Utah Territory, 18 Sept. 1850. In 1851, settled at Springville, Utah Co., Utah Territory, where he was appointed first counselor in branch presidency. Alderman in Springville city government. Died at Springville.
