28 July 1797–23 July 1876. Carpenter, wainwright. Born at Vershire, Orange Co., Vermont. Son of Moses French Jackman and Elizabeth Carr. Moved to Batavia, Genesee Co., New York, 1810. Married first Angeline Myers Brady, 13 Nov. 1817, at Alexander, Genesee Co. Moved to Portage Co., Ohio, 1830. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Harvey G. Whitlock, 7 May 1831, in Portage Co.; ordained an elder by Oliver Cowdery a few days later. Ordained a high priest by Oliver Cowdery, 25 Oct. 1831. Left for Jackson Co., Missouri, 2 May 1832. Moved to Clay Co., Missouri, Nov. 1833. Appointed member of Zion high council in Clay Co., summer 1834. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, July 1835. Labored on Kirtland temple, 1835–1836. Returned to Clay Co., 1836. Moved to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, June 1836. Elected justice of the peace, 1836. Served on Zion high council in Far West, 1837–1839. Obtained land at Commerce (later Nauvoo), Hancock Co., Illinois, 1839. Labored on Nauvoo temple. Served mission, 1844. Married second Sally Plumb, 1846. Moved to Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska), winter 1846–1847. Migrated with Brigham Young pioneer company to Salt Lake Valley, 1847. Appointed member of first high council in Salt Lake Valley. Ordained a patriarch. Moved to Salem, Utah Co., Utah Territory, Mar. 1864. Died at Salem.
