Crosby, Jonathan

20 July 1807–12 June 1892. Farmer, carpenter, cabinetmaker. Born at Wendell, Franklin Co., Massachusetts. Son of Jonathan Crosby and Lois Barnes. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2 Dec. 1833. Married Caroline Barnes, 25 Oct. 1834, in Canada. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 12 Jan. 1836. Ordained an elder, 27 Mar. 1836, in Kirtland. Ordained a seventy, 1836, in Kirtland. In 1838–1842, lived in Pleasant Gardens, Putnam Co., Indiana, where he presided over local branch. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, June 1842. Served mission to northern U.S. and Province of Canada, Oct. 1842. Appointed a president of Twelfth Quorum of the Seventy, spring 1844, in Nauvoo. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley, 1848. Appointed to serve colonizing mission to Pacific Islands, Apr. 1850; returned from mission, 1852. Died at Beaver, Beaver Co., Utah Territory.
