Biography
20 May 1809–4 Apr. 1885. Farmer. Born in St. John, New Brunswick (later in Canada). Son of George Pack and Phylotte Green. Moved with parents to New York, ca. 1817. Resided in Rutland, Jefferson Co., New York, 1820. Married Julia Ives, 10 Oct. 1832, likely in Watertown, Jefferson Co. Purchased father’s farm in Hounsfield, Jefferson Co., 5 Mar. 1835. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by James Blakeslee, 8 Mar. 1836, in Hounsfield. Ordained an elder, by 1837. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, spring 1837. Moved to Daviess Co., Missouri, spring 1838. Moved to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, ca. 1 Sept. 1838. Ordained a seventy, 5 Jan. 1839, in Far West. Moved to Log Creek (six miles from Far West), ca. winter 1838–1839; to four miles from Perry, Pike Co., Illinois, Feb. 1839; and to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, Apr. 1840. Served several missions to eastern U.S. Resided in Nauvoo Third Ward, ca. spring 1842. Member of Nauvoo Legion. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Appointed Nauvoo city policeman, 29 Dec. 1843. Served mission to New Jersey to campaign for JS as candidate for U.S. president, 1844.Appointed president of Eighth Quorum of the Seventy at its reorganization, Oct. 1844, in Nauvoo. Appointed agent to collect tithes and donations for church, Jan. 1845. Elected member of Nauvoo City Council, 3 Feb. 1845, but never served because city charter was repealed. Rented and managed Nauvoo Mansion, 25 Feb. 1845. Admitted to Council of Fifty, 1 Mar. 1845. Moved to Cutler’s Park, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska), 1 Aug. 1846. Moved to Winter Quarters (later in Omaha), Sept. 1846. Member of first pioneer company to arrive in Salt Lake Valley in July 1847. Returned to Winter Quarters and brought family to Salt Lake Valley, 1848. Served mission to France with John Taylor and Curtis E. Bolton, 1849–1852. Appointed to help settle Carson Valley, Carson Co., Utah Territory (later in Nevada), 1856. Resided in Salt Lake City Seventeenth Ward, 1860. Served mission to middle and eastern U.S., 1869. Ordained a high priest, 29 Oct. 1869, in Salt Lake City. Died in Salt Lake City.
