Biography
5 Sept. 1810–14 Feb. 1890. Mail carrier, farmer. Born at Wilton, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire. Son of John Tippets and Abigail Pierce. Lived at Lewis, Essex Co., New York, 1813–1834. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Elijah Collins, July 1832. Married first Abigail (Abby) Jane Smith, Oct. 1834, at Bolton, Washington Co., New York. Lived at Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1834–1835; in Missouri, 1835–1839; and at Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, 1839–1840. Ordained a seventy by Joseph Young, 12 May 1839, in Quincy. Lived at Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, 1840–1846. Married second Caroline Fidelia Calkins Pew, 25 Sept. 1840, at Nauvoo. Served mission to Illinois and Indiana, fall 1842. Member of Mormon Battalion in U.S. war with Mexico, 1846–1847. Helped lead Pueblo detachment of battalion and Mississippi Latter-day Saints to Salt Lake Valley, 1847. Served mission to England, 1856–1857. Moved to Farmington, Davis Co., Utah Territory, 1864. Ordained a patriarch, 1878. Died in Farmington.
