Biography
10 Aug. 1801–ca. 1846. Born in Ashe Co., North Carolina. Son of Isaac Hitchcock and Elizabeth Wheeler. Married Mary Polly Hopper, 4 July 1821, at Lafayette Co., Missouri. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ordained an elder by Oliver Cowdery, 20 July 1831. Located with Colesville, Broome Co., New York, branch in Jackson Co., Missouri, by 1832. Ordained a high priest, 7 Aug. 1834, in Clay Co. Fled Jackson Co., Nov. 1833. Member of Missouri high council, 1836–1837. In 1843, served mission in Illinois to “disabuse the public mind” over arrest of JS. Member of the Seventy at Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois. Died at Mount Pisgah, Clarke Co., Iowa Territory, en route to Salt Lake Valley.
