12 Apr. 1813–27 July 1898. Clerk, farmer. Born in Roughhay, Fulwood, Lancashire, England. Son of Thomas Whitehead and Mary. Married first Jane Marshall Hindle, 25 Jan. 1837, in Preston, Lancashire, England. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Heber C. Kimball, 18 Oct. 1837, in Preston. Served as secretary to first patriarch of English mission, 1841. Ordained a high priest by Heber C. Kimball, Brigham Young, and Willard Richards, 6 Apr. 1841, in Manchester, Lancashire. Immigrated to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, Apr. 1842. Employed in temple recorder’s office, June 1842. Moved to Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska), 1847. Moved to Alton, Madison Co., Illinois, fall 1847. Joined Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Sept. 1865. Wife died, 11 Aug. 1886. Moved to Lamoni, Decatur Co., Iowa, 1890. Married second Ella Dudley, 24 Mar. 1892, in Lamoni. Died in Lamoni.
