15 Dec. 1806–after 1870. Bookkeeper, clerk, rope maker, laborer. Born in Burslem, Staffordshire, England. Moved to Lancashire, England, before 1832. Married Catherine Burgess, before 1832, in Lancashire. Moved to Salford, Lancashire, before 1840. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jan. 1840, in Lancashire. Ordained an elder, between Jan. 1840 and Oct. 1840, in Manchester, Lancashire. Served as clerk for church conference in Manchester, beginning 6 Oct. 1840. Emigrated from Salford, 29 Sept. 1842. Arrived in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, by spring 1843. Appointed recorder for baptisms for the dead and clerk of Nauvoo House, July 1843. Moved to St. Louis, by end of 1844. Moved to Lexington, Lafayette Co., Missouri, by 1870.
