Biography

21 Feb. 1802–14 Oct. 1872. Sailor, farmer, carpenter. Born in Winchester, Cheshire Co., New Hampshire. Son of Henry Pratt and Rebekah Jewell. Married Louisa Barnes, 3 Apr. 1831, in Dunham, Lower Canada. Settled on banks of Lake Erie, in New York, where he lived for seven years. Lived in Clay Co., Indiana, 1840. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, 1841. Resided in Nauvoo First Ward, 1842. Ordained an elder, 1842. Appointed to serve mission to Vermont, 10 Apr. 1843. Ordained a seventy, 23 May 1843, in Nauvoo. Appointed to serve mission to Sandwich Islands with Noah Rogers, Benjamin Grouard, and Knowlton F. Hanks, 23 May 1843. Sailed from New Bedford, Bristol Co., Massachusetts, to Society Islands, 9 Oct. 1843. Presided over Society Islands mission, 1845–1847. Left Society Islands, 2 Mar. 1847; arrived in San Francisco, 11 June 1847. Served as president of San Francisco branch, 1847. Reunited with wife and children in Salt Lake Valley, 28 Sept. 1848. Left Salt Lake City for second mission to Society Islands, 9 Oct. 1849; arrived 24 May 1850. Presided over Society Islands mission, 1850–1852. Returned to U.S.; arrived in San Francisco, 30 June 1852. Moved to San Bernardino, Los Angeles Co., California, Dec. 1852, where he lived with his family for six years. Resided with daughter at San Salvador settlement, San Bernardino Co., California, 1860. Moved to Beaver, Beaver Co., Utah Territory, spring 1863; to San Jose, Santa Clara Co., California, ca. 1864; and to Anaheim, Los Angeles Co., by 1870. Died in Anaheim.
