Biography

11 Sept. 1801–14 July 1890. Farmer, sheriff, justice of the peace, judge. Born at Henderson Co., Kentucky. Son of William Black and Jane Wilson. Moved near Booneville, Copper Co., Missouri Territory, and then to Ray Co., Missouri Territory, 1819. Elected sheriff of Ray Co., 1824. Married first Mary W. Morgan, 6 Sept. 1825, at Ray Co. Assessor of Ray Co., 1826. Served in Black Hawk War, 1832. Moved to what became Daviess Co., Missouri, 1833. Served as justice of the peace and county judge in Daviess Co. Prominent in Daviess Co. faction antagonistic to Latter-day Saints, 1838. In 1844, moved to Gentry Co., Missouri, where he served as judge. Married second Margaret Grooms, ca. 1847. Married third Sarah (Sallie) Kelley, 15 Oct. 1857. In 1861, moved to Livingston Co., Missouri, where he served as county judge. Died in Jackson Township, Livingston Co.
