Errata for Revelations and Translations: Manuscript Revelation Books (Facsimile Edition)
This sheet identifies errors found in Revelations and Translations: Manuscript Revelation Books (Facsimile Edition). Minor errors, such as in the format of source citations, are not reported. The errors reported here occur in all printings of the volume and have been corrected in the transcripts, annotation, and reference material presented on this site. This sheet will be updated as additional errors are found. Please report additional errors by emailing [email protected].
Page xiv, line 7. Change “D&C 88:127–141” to “D&C 88:127–137”.
Page xxviii, note 14. Change “D&C 67:7–9” to “D&C 67:8–9”.
Page 31, line 18. Move up the caret beneath “let” so that it sits above the “e” in “let” (between the period and the “B” in “Behold”).
Page 31, line 19. Move up the stricken caret beneath “you” so that it sits above the “o” in “you” (between “&” and “give”).
Page 33, notes 35–36. Switch the order of these two notes.
Page 37, line 33. The caret between “thee” and “shall” should be green, not black.
Page 41, note 50. Change “March 1833 issue of The Evening and the Morning Star.” to “Book of Commandments (chapter 28).”
Page 45, line 6. The strikethrough bar in “day soon at hand” should be red, not black.
Page 57, line 23. Change “into” to “unto”.
Page 61, line 14. Move down the semicolon at the end of this line so that it sits below and between the “o” and “[n]” in “instructio[n]”.
Page 85, note 97. This note should read, “‘has’ first appears in print in the January 1835 issue of Evening and Morning Star, which was an edited reprint of the June 1832 issue of The Evening and the Morning Star. The ink flow of this revision, however, appears to match the ink flow…”
Page 159, line 18. The strikethrough bar in “yea” should be green, not black.
Page 175, line 11. Move the triple underline to be beneath the capital “I”.
Page 199, line 26. The strikethrough bar in “u” should be red, not black.
Page 199, note 248. This note should read, “. . . although some of Oliver Cowdery’s redactions first appear in print in the June 1835 issue of Evening and Morning Star, which was an edited reprint of the October 1832 issue of The Evening and the Morning Star.”
Page 201, note 252. This note should read, “Between this point and another asterisk five lines below, Evening and Morning Star contains the . . .”.
Page 209, line 15. Change “appeard” to “appeared”.
Page 211, note 270. Insert “is” between “leaf” and “worn”.
Page 239, note 334. Change “attached to the following leaf” to “attached to the previous leaf”.
Pages 309, 311, running head. In “3 January 1833 [D&C 88:127–141]”, change the verse numbers to “127–137”.
Page 385, line 22. Change “Joseph” to “Joseph [Smith Sr.]”.
Page 401, line 4. Change “even” to “were”.
Page 415, line 30. Change “{◊\my} my” to “{◊\my}” (delete the second “my”).
Page 445, line 15. Change “kings” to “[t]hings”.
Page 445, line 15. Add a note after “[t]hings”: “Possibly ‘kings’.”
Page 451, line 12. Change “him” to “hire”.
Page 487, note 56. Delete the first sentence. Change the second sentence to read, “The ink flow of double slashes throughout this revelation, which was later printed as section 7 of the 1835 Doctrine and Covenants, appears to match the ink flow of notations on manuscript pages 20, 31, and 111.”
Page 509, note 67. Delete entire text of note and replace with the following: “No other version of this item exists, though the text was later adapted into a hymn and published. An undated broadside of the hymn states that it was ‘sung in tongues’ by David W. Patten and ‘interpreted’ by Sidney Rigdon. (‘Mysteries of God,’ CHL.) This item was never canonized.”
Page 535, line 2. Delete “[Olah]”.
Page 561, note 115. This note should be numbered 116. Sidenote numbering remains off by 1 for the remainder of Revelation Book 2.
Page 577, line 23. Change “lo” to “be”.
Page 589, line 11. Move the inserted “you” to the right so that the stem of the “y” falls between “unto” and “the”.
Page 603, line 8. “if” should be enclosed in angle brackets, to signify that it was inserted. Hence, “. . . in the church and <if> they . . .”.
Page 613, line 20. Change “strengeth” to “strength”.
Page 673–708. A number of updates and changes have been made to the reference material. The updates correct factual errors, add additional information, and remove biographical information that, while possibly accurate, could not be documented in primary sources or the most reliable secondary sources. Because the reference material supports all published volumes and all documents published on the website, the Smith Papers staff will not keep a record of the specific changes made to each entry published in Revelations and Translations, Volume 2. Readers should refer to the Reference section of the Joseph Smith Papers website to find the corrected and updated information.
Page 677, February 1835. The entry that reads “JS organized Quorum of the Seventy, Kirtland.” should be listed as having happened on 28 February 1835.
Pages 679–684. A number of updates and changes have been made to the biographies published in the Scribal Directory. The updates corrected factual errors, added additional information, and removed information that, while possibly accurate, could not be documented in primary sources or reliable secondary sources. The Smith Papers staff will not keep a record of the specific changes made to each biographical entry. Readers should refer to the Reference section of the Joseph Smith Papers website to find the corrected and updated biographies.
Page 684, line 32. Replace square with “∫”.
Page 688. Add the following entry between the entries for “Missouri Republican” and “Painesville Republican”: “Mysteries of God, As Revealed to Enoch, on the Mount Mehujah, and Sung in Tongues by Elder D. W. Patton, of the “Church of Latter Day Saints,” (Who Fell a Martyr to the Cause of Christ, in the Missouri Persecution,) and Interpreted by Elder S. Rigdon. [After 1838]. Copy at CHL.”
