On Friday and Saturday, September 15 and 16, 2023, the Joseph Smith Papers Project will host the seventh Joseph Smith Papers conference. This year’s event will take place at the Conference Center Theater located on the west side of the Conference Center (60 West North Temple St., Salt Lake City, Utah 84150). Registration has closed, but you can still attend the conference. If you wish to attend in person at the Conference Center Theater in Salt Lake City, please see the link below for the schedule.
This conference commemorates the completion of the print series of The Joseph Smith Papers and engages with the following question: What have we learned from the Joseph Smith Papers Project? Conference presentations will explore major themes of the documents, assess the project’s value for scholars and Latter-day Saints, and reflect on the work of publishing nearly thirty volumes of Joseph Smith’s papers.
The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Laurie F. Maffly-Kipp, Archer Alexander Distinguished Professor, Washington University in St. Louis. Opening remarks will be delivered by President Dallin H. Oaks, first counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The conference is free to attend, and a catered lunch will be provided on both days for the first 300 registered attendees. Those unable to attend in person will be able to view a live stream of the proceedings. Those who plan to view the conference through the live stream will need to register and will receive a link approximately one week before the conference. Please register only if you plan to attend the conference; your courtesy will help us keep the conference free.
